Hello. I am an independent computer services consultant located in Calgary, Canada, looking for new projects and/or a more permanent job in an interesting field. I am trying to move in my career also, from a design (web and software)-oriented to a more applied service or technical-oriented position. I am considering to take a few certification exams, but I would prefer to target my training for a specific position rather than just pile up certifications. Wherever I worked so far I used my knowledge (listed at the end of my CV), of hardware, software and network topologies and protocols in order to make my work and the work of my teams easier. Hardware (electronics, mechanics): I worked with computers ever since I built my first 8-bit one in highschool (1986), including soldering parts, designing printed circuits and machining hardware for a pen plotter which I built from scratch as my highschool diploma project. Ever since, I am building, maintaining and upgrading my own (and my family and friends') computers. This past year I stripped down and rebuilt most of the LaserJet printers (from desktop models to the top-of-the-line multifunction color LJ9500 models), so I can provide assistance to onsite repair technicians. This is the field that I like most: building and maintaining real things is much more satisfactory than the faster, but more volatile and faster-aging software design. Networking: From assembly-written drivers for home-built phone modems in 1987, through Microsoft's and Novell's first attempts at peer-to-peer and Apple's own protocols, to current high-speed networks, I worked with, installed and provided support for a wide variety of networking environments. I worked with Cisco networking hardware and software only during my bachelor's program (1993-1996), as part of the netadmin team and since then I can see that many details have changed (interfaces, added protocols), but it seems that the fundamentals are the same: flexible and secure connectivity. Customer support: I can quote the last year, which I spent at Sitel Canada, providing technical and logistics support to customers and technicians on the entire line of HP LaserJet printers. Knowledge management: I have plenty of experience condensing the wealth of information needed to handle a large number of processes and tools into concise and well-organized web wikis for call center support teams, project management, teaching and various other specialized document editors and end-users, always researching for a faster, more complete and consistent user experience. I have used and designed DMBSes, expert systems and web client-server data repositories. Software engineering: Though I like playing in the freedom of Open Source, I also have deep experience of most Digital, Microsoft, Apple and various unix operating systems. At a time or another I used a wide variety of programming languages, even programmed an interpreter for LOGO for my plotter project and a toy interpreter for a subset of ADA. However, am am not currently at professional level in software engineering. I left that field for the flash and fast development practices of: Multimedia and web development: My most recent web design work (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, php, as light and customer-maintainable as possible, I avoid frameworks when I can) can be seen at: http://monicsoft.net/photodocumentary.ca/index.html and http://monicsoft.net/quitethelegs.com. Most of my old work doesn't exist online anymore, but I am hosting pages like these for several small businesses and friends. (since the extensive Flash and FreehandCompressed work I made in the past is now obsolete, I replaced it with HTML5, like the second link above) I would enjoy the opportunity to help people with their technology problems and to continue learning in a stimulating environment. Looking forward to hearing from you, Radu Luchianov (www.monicsoft.net) Email: radu@monicsoft.net Phone: (403) 667-6612
